HISS BAKERY is a third generation retail bakery and is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007.  We would like to thank all of our Akron / Barberton / Summit County patrons  for allowing us to provide them with fresh baked goods for their every occasion these last 50 years and into the future.

 

Baking has always been in the family.  On the paternal side of the family, Reinhart Hiss had a bakery in Barberton from 1899 until 1919 shortly after World War I broke out.  Bread was delivered by horse-drawn carriage.  On the maternal side, Henry Aberth came over from Alsace-Lorraine in the 1880's at 14 years old and subsequently founded City Baking Co. around 1915, which became one of the largest bakeries in Akron and active for over four decades delivering bread door-to-door by truck.
